The Boondocks: Jesus was Black and Ronald Reagan Was The Devil.

The show "The Boondocks" produced by Aaron Mcgruder originated from a politically satirical comic strip Aaron started in the late 90s.

The main protagonist Huey Freeman, named after Huey P. Newton of the Black Panther party, is an African-American boy around 7 years old from the Southside of Chicago. He's extremely left-leaning in his political views and also a self-described revolutionary. The show revolves around him and his younger brother Riley who is basically a child whose behavior and mannerisms are almost completely a result of too much Black media, especially those which perpetuates negative black stereotypes. (ie: BET and Rap) The show also includes the grandfather, Robert Freeman, the father figure to the boys, isn't really given an age, but lived through the civil rights era and rather enjoys reminding everyone of it pretty frequently.

This show can evoke different emotions depending on who's watching and what they're trying to get from it. I myself watched the show at a young age and obviously not being well versed in politics I quickly started enjoying episodes which focused more on the younger brother Riley just for the jokes and crude language while being totally ignorant to the deeper meaning of the storyline. With age and some maturation and a basic understanding of politics, it became easier to understand the protagonist and sympathise with him. If you watch the show today understanding that it is a satirical, but at the same time, semi-honest critique of black culture in America it becomes more than just a raunchy family guy-esque kind of show.. much, much more.

Mcgruder tackled very serious subject matters throughout the series such as homophobia within the black community, corruption in the government, and racism all from a very entertaining and easily palatable perspective which are still relevant today years later. A perfect example is one of the earlier episodes which focused on the time R.Kelly peed on an underage girl and faced no legal repercussions.

I'll leave you with the ending of that episode as to give you all a better look into the general tone of the show.
