Rick and Morty: Nobody exists on purpose. Nobody belongs anywhere. Everybody's gonna die.

The infamous Rick and Morty is a cartoon co-created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon. Like most of the other shows, I talk about it originally aired on Adult Swim. It is kind of obvious that it is a parody of the Back to the Future movies and Marty McFly is now Morty. The pair were originally named Doc and Mharty,
Roiland had to change their names most likely so he wouldn't get sued by Universal and or Steven Spielberg.

The show follows Morty and Grandpa Rick on their ridiculous adventures throughout the cosmos and alternate timelines while they do everything from leaving the Earth in a state reminiscent of a David Cronenberg film all the way to Rick turning himself into a literal Pickle.

Rick is an extremely intelligent mad scientist who can do literally anything he wants and due to the infinite possibilities that his life can take he faces existential crises and depression to the point of attempting suicide in one of the early episodes. his attempt ultimately failed since passed out due to him always being drunk to avoid dealing with his emotions.

This scene is pretty self-explanatory

Morty, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. He is one of the dumbest people. Rick mentions at one point that he uses Morty's stupidity to his own advantage and regularly take advantage of Morty. Rick is frankly an asshole and only does anything in the early seasons for his own benefit and gives little thought or care to the people he hurts. He doesn't stay that way, but that is your first impressions of him and Morty is a simple, caring, teenage boy who just wants to spend time with his grandpa and gets thrown into these extreme adventures.

This scene further explains the dynamic between the two of them.

This show without all the sci-fi adventure aspects can be considered similar to another show I mentioned in a previous post, Bojack Horseman. Bojack has everything he could want, money, fame, etc. Having anything and everything doesn't change his flaws and how he is as a person, or rather a "Horse Man." It only pushes him to behave like even more of an asshole. Similar to Rick, his extreme intelligence only furthers his loneliness and his loneliness leads him to push those who love him further and further away.
