Bojack all by his lonesome
No one enjoys being alone,
it gets depressing after a while and that's what I'm gonna dive into today.
(Get it? cause that's the name of the.. yeah you get it)
The fifth season of Bojack Horseman already starts off with the quote,
"Nothing's lonelier than a party, good thing I don't need anyone or I might feel lonesome"
So the theme for the fifth season is already set in motion.
Bojack isn't the only one dealing with loneliness though. Everyone has something going on. Tod, Bojack's closest friend, struggles to make his romantic relationships work due to his disinterest in sex. He even ends up building a literal sex robot to try and save a relationship which obviously does not end up working.
oof
ultimately Tod ends up destroying his robot and feeling even more alone than before.
Diane, Bojack's second closest friend, just ended her marriage with Mr.PeanutButter. That isn't where her loneliness starts and not even close to where it ends. She and her ex-husband were not in the least bit compatible so she always felt out of place trying to fit into his extremely extroverted way of living his life.
A short while after they separate Mr.PeanutButter moves on and so Diane is hurt and decides to take a trip to Vietnam to get away and forget her issues. I think she forgot that being alone in a foreign country alone and not being able to speak Vietnamese is going to be a smidge more isolating than just staying home and polishing off a couple pints of Ben&Jerry's.
It obviously doesn't work out and she just ends up flying back and confronting her loneliness head on, eventually overcoming it by the end of the season.
Now the star of the show
Mr. Moody and Broody himself
Bojack
(Jazz handss)
He deals with his loneliness in quite strange ways. He needs human interaction almost as much as he seems to need to get high.
(which he only does to avoid dealing with his emotions)
The relationship that he formed with his co-star only seemed to leave him even lonelier than he started off. She is completely self-sufficient and enjoys solitude.
Due to his inability to form that bond he so desperately wants he ends up just turning to pills which only exacerbate the issue since no one wants to be near him when he's off his shit.
The season ends with Bojack begging Diane to write a post on her blog to put out all the shit he's done so that the world can hold him accountable instead of simply holding himself accountable for his actions. Diane convinces him to go to rehab.
(I was gonna make an Amy Winehouse joke but I won't go there, no no no)
I guess he was wrong when he said he didn't need anyone.
